Please Find Your Seat: Portugal's 2026 World Cup Wedding Seating Chart
💒 HEAD TABLE: Ronaldo (6th World Cup, Groom of the Summer). HONORARY CHAIR: Diogo Jota. RSVP DECLINED: João Palhinha (card lost in mail). Junior Kroupi waited for France to call. They didn't. This is Portugal's 2026 World Cup squad, rewritten as a wedding seating chart.

Please take a moment to find your seat. The Seleção das Quinas appreciates your patience. Due to high demand, the reception has 26 confirmed guests and one honorary chair.
Forty-one years old. Sixth World Cup. And he still gets the head table.
Roberto Martínez confirmed Portugal's 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on May 19, announcing it at the Cidade do Futebol outside Lisbon — and the ceremony had all the drama of a Portuguese coastal wedding: a legendary groom, a sentimental toast, at least one name conspicuously absent from the guest list, and a plus-one nobody expected. 1
Below is the official seating chart. Please do not rearrange the name cards. The catering staff has been briefed.

The head table
Groom of the Summer · Father of the Bride · Immediate family
| Name | Club | Title |
|---|---|---|
| Cristiano Ronaldo | Al-Nassr | Groom (6th World Cup, 226 caps, 143 international goals) |
| Roberto Martínez | Venue coordinator / manager | Host (asked guests not to compare seating to Messi's Argentina table) |
| Bruno Fernandes | Manchester United | Best Man (team captain in Ronaldo's absence, but Ronaldo is not absent) |
| Rúben Dias | Manchester City | Ring bearer (voted Portugal's best defender since birth) |
Cristiano Ronaldo was always going to anchor this table. Martínez addressed it directly: "The numbers make the argument for Cristiano Ronaldo. He's not in the squad because of what he was, but because his present form earns it every time." 2 The man scored 24 goals in Saudi league play this season and has 5 to go to break the all-time Portugal scoring record. He's not here as a museum exhibit.

Table 1 — The Parisian table
Seat yourself by club. Three PSG guests, one apology from the venue for the language barrier.
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| João Neves | Paris Saint-Germain | Welcome drinks coordinator (21 years old, already the best Portuguese midfielder since Rúben Neves was 21) |
| Vitinha | Paris Saint-Germain | Signature cocktail design (technical, neat, annoyingly elegant) |
| Gonçalo Ramos | Paris Saint-Germain | Canapé service (he scores in bunches, same energy) |
| Nuno Mendes | Paris Saint-Germain | Valet parking (left-back, left the venue spotless) |
Four PSG players at one table. Martínez's relationship with that particular organization is, at minimum, thorough. Samu Costa (Mallorca) and Rúben Neves (Al-Hilal) drew the overflow chairs beside this table but are technically registered under "Central Midfield Annex."
Table 2 — The Manchester City table
A prestigious venue; three guests who can pass the bread without making eye contact
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| Rúben Dias | Manchester City | Table host (see: head table, also assigned here for logistical reasons) |
| Bernardo Silva | Manchester City | Speeches (fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and football) |
| Matheus Nunes | Manchester City | Plus-one (listed as "midfielder/defender/wherever you need him") |
Bernardo Silva was asked to keep his remarks short. He will not keep his remarks short.
Table 3 — The Manchester United table
Two guests. Maximum drama. Guaranteed.
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| Bruno Fernandes | Manchester United | Toastmaster (see also: head table; he goes everywhere) |
| Diogo Dalot | Manchester United | Seating chart logistics (right-back, used to navigating tight spaces) |
These are the only two Manchester United players on the seating chart. This was also true at the last wedding, the one before that, and every Portugal gathering since 2016. They manage.
Table 4 — The Portuguese domestic table
Sporting CP and Benfica guests, seated together as a peace gesture
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| Diogo Costa | Porto | Head goalkeeper / first to arrive, last to leave |
| Gonçalo Inácio | Sporting CP | Security (6'2", calm demeanor, reliable on set pieces) |
| Rui Silva | Sporting CP | Backup photographer (second goalkeeper, documents everything) |
| Trincão | Sporting CP | Entertainment committee (unpredictable movement, guests love it) |
| Tomás Araújo | Benfica | Floral arrangement (debut national squad, placed carefully) |
Porto, Sporting, and Benfica at the same table. The venue specifically requested no one discuss the Primeira Liga. 3
Table 5 — The Saudi table
Two guests who both play in a league you've stopped watching but keep checking
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| Cristiano Ronaldo | Al-Nassr | (see: head table — Ronaldo has two seats, this is fine, this is CR7) |
| João Félix | Al-Nassr | Surprise guest (moved from Chelsea to Al-Nassr mid-season, arrived with a tan) |
João Félix spent time at Chelsea, Atlético, Barcelona, and now Al-Nassr before turning 25. He is the wedding guest who cannot commit to a single seat. Martínez still invited him.
Table 6 — The Chelsea, Villarreal, and Fenerbahçe miscellany table
The table for guests who play in leagues the other guests find hard to explain
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| Pedro Neto | Chelsea | Place card calligrapher (quick feet, precise touch) |
| Renato Veiga | Villarreal | Emergency usher (covers every zone, rarely noticed until he isn't there) |
| Nélson Semedo | Fenerbahçe | Designated driver (right-back, stationed near the exit at all times) |
| Francisco Conceição | Juventus | Wild card table crasher (scored the Champions League final goal this season, seated wherever he likes) |
| Gonçalo Guedes | Real Sociedad | Veteran guest (nine clubs in nine years, arrives knowing no one, leaves knowing everyone) |
| Rafael Leão | AC Milan | DJ (the moment he turns up, the volume changes) |
Francisco Conceição scored the winner in the Champions League final. Juventus beat PSG 1-0. He is placed at Table 6 as a formality; everyone knows he is sitting at the head table by the third course.
Table 7 — The goalkeeping table
Three goalkeepers. One conversation topic.
| Name | Club | Assigned role |
|---|---|---|
| Diogo Costa | Porto | Lead photographer (also goalkeeper) |
| José Sá | Wolverhampton Wanderers | Backup photographer (also goalkeeper) |
| Rui Silva | Sporting CP | Keeps the spare camera (also goalkeeper) |
José Sá was Wolverhampton's player of the season in a Wolves side that escaped relegation by two points. Rui Silva has a combined 3 Portugal caps. They will not discuss this.
The honorary chair
Reserved. Do not move this name card.
One chair at the reception has been set with a full place setting: water glass, bread roll, name card, cutlery. The name reads Diogo Jota, and no one will sit there.
Martínez confirmed that Ricardo Velho — a Gençlerbirliği goalkeeper with zero Portugal caps — was added to the travel party specifically in Jota's memory. Jota, the Liverpool and Portugal forward who died in a road accident in 2025 at age 28, was one of Martínez's most trusted players. 4
Velho will not appear on the official 26-man match roster. He is here because someone needed to carry the name forward.
The plus-one (strictly for training purposes)
Ricardo Velho (Gençlerbirliği) has been admitted to the reception hall. He has been asked not to occupy a numbered seat unless one of the three official photographers is injured. He understands. He brought a gift anyway.
RSVPs declined
These guests received an invitation. They sent regrets.
João Palhinha — Tottenham Hotspur, 37 caps
The envelope was delivered. The name card was prepared. Then Martínez chose Vitinha, João Neves, Rúben Neves, and Samu Costa as his central midfield four, and Palhinha's placement at Table 1 was quietly removed. He has featured 37 times for Portugal. He will watch from his living room with the rest of us. 3
Junior Kroupi — Bournemouth, 0 Portugal caps
Nineteen years old. Twelve Premier League goals this season, joint-record for a teenager. Portuguese-eligible through his mother's side. Martínez sent him an invitation in March.
He declined.
"Before the March training camp, we approached him," Martínez confirmed. "But one thing is accompanying players who can wear the Portugal shirt, another is the player's willingness. And in this case, Junior wanted to represent France." 5
Kroupi committed to the France Under-21s and waited for Didier Deschamps to call. Deschamps did not call. Kroupi was not in France's 26 either. He will be 22 by the next World Cup and he can sit anywhere he likes.
Matheus Fernandes — West Ham, limited caps
No table assignment. No notice. The envelope simply never arrived.
Group K — reception venues
Portugal will hold their reception at three venues across the United States:
- DR Congo
- Uzbekistan
- Colombia
The venue managers in the 48-team format have assured guests that Group K is "entirely manageable." The management of Portugal's side appears to agree, having built a squad averaging 27 years old with four PSG players, three Manchester City players, a Champions League final goalscorer, and a 41-year-old who has attended six of these events and refuses to go home.
The chair Diogo Jota was supposed to occupy remains set.
